Pentel Energize Deluxe Mechanical Pencil Video Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v37xgVXCvwc

The Energize Deluxe is an economy pencil that surprises in all the right ways.

Pros:  Feature rich with a retractable and sliding sleeve and a good grip, especially if you are a “low” gripper, great value for the price.

Cons: Threads for the two halves seem easily breakable, less consistent lead advancement than most Pentels, drafting eraser (but a classic high quality Z2-1)

Writing experience:  Good (grip a little thick for my taste, but a sliding sleeve makes the experience more efficient)

Quality: Good (strong pocket clip, solid overall construction although I worry about the screw threads connecting the two halves)

Features: Good+ (pocket safe, sliding sleeve, textured rubberized grip, but has a drafting eraser)

Price: Cheap (8 USD retail, Office Max in this case)

Easily amongst the top three economy Pentels.  So, it enters my Top Ten at Number 9!  The Pilot S3, although a great pencil, gets bumped off the Honorable Mentions list.  The Alvin Draft/Matic, also a great pencil, gets bumped off the Top Ten and takes the S3’s place on the HM list.  The Uni Shift Pipe-Lock falls to Number 10.
