The Rotring 600 sets the standard for what a drafting pencil should be. In the video I do a breakdown of the pencil components, the features, and I compare it to the Alvin Draft/Matic.
Pros: Impeccable construction and quality, solid grip with near-perfect knurling, lead hardness indicator, solid pocket clip, replaceable tip
Cons: eraser, some internals plastic
Writing Experience: Great
Quality: Superb (slight hit on some plastic internals, but it’s like finding a small hidden scratch on a Bentley)
Features: OK+ (replaceable tip and lead hardness indicator get it the bump)
Price: Moderate-Expensive (as low as 21 on Amazon, 33 USD Jetpens, Retail 50 USD)
Be cautious that you get the exact generation you want and that you haven’t ordered a knock off. I would trust only established pen/pencil sites and the actual Rotring listing on Amazon.
Top Ten? You bet. Number 2. Despite the lower rating on Features, I find it hard to rate this pencil below a TWSBI Precision, as much as I like the TWSBI, even with a retractable tip. It has been the industry standard for a drafting pencil for decades.
