This review is for the brand spanking new Uni Kuru Toga Pipe Slide.
This variant of the Kuru Toga, just released at the end of 2015, has many of the same features of the classic Kuru Toga. Same unique engine, same body, same pocket clip, same eraser. So why get it? (Read my latest updated review of the Kuru Toga Basic here!)
The Kuru Toga Pipe Slide has both a retractable sleeve and sliding sleeve! This, combined with all of the other features on the Kuru Toga that I like (and some that I don’t), I feel like this variant can finally enter the Top Ten!
Writing Experience: Good+ (An upgrade on the strength of the retractable/sliding sleeve)
Quality: OK+ (Unchanged)
Features: Great (An upgrade on the combination of the Kuru Toga engine and retractable/sliding sleeve!)
Cost: Moderate (It is expensive because it was just released and US stock is probably low. 9 USD for the black model on Amazon, 20 USD+ for the blue and pink variants.) I don’t even see this one on http://www.pencils.jp, it’s so new!
Pros: retractable sliding sleeve, nice contouring on the grip for hard plastic
Cons: still spongy while writing, still a wobbly eraser assembly
The moves: The Pentel Twist Erase GT leaves the Top Ten and replaces the Kuru Toga Basic on the Honorable Mentions list. The Lamy Safari moves up a spot to #9 and the Uni Kuru Toga Pipe Slide slides into (pun intended) the number ten spot in the Top Ten!
